Before you start, park the car in PARK, shift the transmission into that position and raise the vehicle. Open up the cable eyelet on the transmission's shift lever and pull out the cable adjuster from the bracket. Pull the vehicle up on jack stands, open the truck and remove the insulation pad from the dash, then get hold of the gearshift cable grommet and take it out of the dash. Clear away trim from the steering column to access the cable and the attached BTSI mechanism, then unplug the BTSI wiring connector, disconnect the cable at the bottom of the column and shift lever pin and pull the cable out of the dash panel going into the car. Get rid of the gearshift cable in the vehicle. During installation, guide the end of the gearshift cable destined for the transmission under the dash panel and seat the grommet securely in the opening there. Link the cable into the steering column clamp so that the retaining ears are secure, then secure the cable eyelet onto the shift lever ball stud. Raise the car, hold the transmission manual shift in PARK and turn the prop shaft to be sure the transmission is in that position. Feed the grip of the gearshift cable through the transmission mounting bracket, secure it by connecting the cable retaining ears to the mounting bracket and connect the cable eyelet to the manual shift lever ball stud. After the vehicle is lowered, depress the cable adjuster lock tab downward until it snaps into position, check how the transmission range sensor works and adjust both the gearshift cable and BTSI as needed.
