    How can a Backing Plate be serviced and repaired on Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
    A:
    To attend to the backing plate for servicing and repair, the wheel and tire assembly with the brake drum will be removed, followed by the brake shoe assembly. Subsequently, disengage the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever by compressing the parking brake cable retainer tabs, then push the retainer and parking brake cable through the support plate. Detach the brake line from the wheel cylinder, then take out the wheel cylinder from the support plate. Next, remove the axle shaft and unbolt the support plate from the axle before removing the support plate. 29 words. 50% shorter than original. Apply a bead of silicone sealer around the axle mounting surface of the support plate for installation. Install the support plate on the axle flange and tighten the attaching bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Subsequently, apply silicone sealer on the wheel cylinder mounting surface and install the wheel cylinder followed by the brake line in the wheel cylinder. The installation of the parking brake cable is made on the support plate, and then on the axle shaft. The parking brake cable must be connected to the lever on the secondary shoe. Install the brake shoes on the support plate and adjust them to the drum with a brake gauge. Install the brake drum and wheel and tire assembly after fitting the batwing.
