To disable the supplemental restraint system of air bag-equipped vehicles, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable, then wait two minutes until the system capacitor discharges. Doing so prevents accidentally deploying the air bag while servicing the turn signal relay. To remove the instrument panel, beginning at the steering column, take off the access panel for the fuse on the instrument panel below the steering column. Pass your hand through the inboard side of the fuse access opening to reach the turn signal relay, grip the relay firmly, unhook the latches and pull it straight down from its receptacle on the bottom of the fuse block. Install the new turn signal relay in the fuse block's bottom receptacle, ensuring that the terminals align with the terminal cavities. Applying an even force, push downwards firmly on the top of the relay until the terminals are fully seated, and both latches are engaged. Lastly, put back the steering column opening cover fuse access panel then connect the battery negative cable.
