Before servicing the Clock Spring assembly, take out the negative battery cable and wait two minutes for the system capacitor to become deactivated. Hold the vehicle front wheels straight before you take out the
Air Bag from the
Steering Wheel. Untie the upper pigtail wire from the horn switch terminals in the steering wheel hub, remove the steering wheel from the column and pull off the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel. Follow this by separating the two Clock Spring lower pigtail connectors from the spot between the steering column and the backside of the fuse block wire harness. With the screws on the Clock Spring housing unscrewed, separate the Clock Spring and remove it; do so only if the Clock Spring or air bag show signs of damage. When using the old Clock Spring, keep the rotor steady to the center by holding it in place until you reinstall everything. Install the unit by ensuring the front wheels point forward, sliding the Clock Spring over the upper shaft so it fits in the alignment holes of the multi-function switch housing. After tightening everything to 2 N.m (18 in. lbs.), join the lower pigtail connectors, move wires around the housing and behind the fuse box, replace the
Steering Column Cover, wheel and top pigtail connectors to the horn terminals before you install the air bag.
