  Begin fuel tank repair by making sure you drain and evacuate the tank. The space around the pump module at the top of the tank should be thoroughly cleaned. Spin the clip to disconnect the float rod from the sensor, then rotate the rod slightly so it detaches, making sure the float does not land in the fuel tank.
