Dodge Stratus Clutch Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Clutch Cable on Dodge Stratus?
    A:
The first step is to take out the Power Distribution Center and then to lift the clutch cable cover. With the clutch cable still attached to the clutch, pull it back toward yourself to release it and then guide it back through the slot in the transaxle until it's freed from the release lever. After that, detach the clutch cable up-stop/spacer from the clutch cable connected to the pedal by pressing the pedal. Insert a flat-blade pry tool into the retaining tab at the top of the clutch pedal, but first detach it from the pin by separating the two using the pry tool while you take off the pedal spacer. Make sure you don't pull up the clutch cable too strong because you could break the cable self-adjuster. Gently twist the cable from the dash panel and clutch bracket and remove it. While installing, place the end of the clutch cable with the self-adjuster through the whole in the dash panel into the bracket, with the round cable grommet sitting securely on the panel and the self-adjuster making full contact with the bracket. Put the clutch cable on the up-stop/spacer after and next link it to the clutch pedal. The Adjuster Mechanism should turn correctly if you draw the clutch release lever to make the cable tight and push the housing toward the dashboard with up to 25 lbs. of force. If everything works properly, run the cable through the transaxle's opening and attach it to the lever with the washer in place on the lever tips. Then, slide the clutch cable housing back to remove it. Insert the cable housing into the transaxle, reinstall the cover over the cable and check the switch on the clutch pedal position.
