  Before touching the oil filter, strap the remove/install tool band against the can base lockseam which is reinforced by the base plate to prevent deforming the filter can. Remove the oil filter from the base by using the oil filter wrench and then get rid of it. After that, wipe off the base and check where the gasket contacts the base. Use clean engine oil to coat the gasket on the new filter, replace it and tighten it with the wrench until you reach 20 Nm torque (15 ft. lbs.) after the gasket touches the base. Start up the engine and look for any leaks.
