Dodge Viper Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Power Steering Hose to Ensure Optimal Performance on Dodge Viper?
    A:
Always replace a hose and quick-connect if they were used previously, since the power steering pump pressure hose quick-connect is for single use and must be replaced every time the hose is uninstalled. While the hoses are still off, wash both ends, smooth the O-rings with clean power steering fluid and verify the quick-connect has the nylon gasket and it is not damaged or missing. Install the power steering pressure hose into the steering gear fluid port and turn the nut on the hose to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs). Then, connect a new quick-connect into the power steering pump's outlet port and tighten it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs). Hold the fitting open and fit the end of the hose in firmly so it snaps securely. Once these steps are done, mount the air cleaner, connect the negative cable to the battery negative terminal, bleed and top off the power steering and inspect for any leaks.
  • Q: How to Maintain the Power Steering Hose from Cooler to Reservoir on Dodge Viper?
    A:
Put the battery in safety mode before removing the return hose from the reservoir to the cooler by taking out the negative cable. Take off the air cleaner housing and remove as much fluid as you can from the Power Steering Reservoir (3). Then, take off the screw clamp holding the return hose (1) onto the fluid reservoir and remove the hose from the reservoir end. Pull out both radiator cooling module screws (2) and relocate module (1) upward by around 7 mm (1/4 inch). Lift the vehicle and take off the front extension belly pan. The return hose can be taken out from the fluid cooler by either uncoupling it from the quick-connect tube nut left in the cooler using Remover, Special Tool 8875 or disassembling the tube nut and removing the hose. To take apart the hose tubes at the cooler following the first approach, place Special Tool 8875 around one of the tubes and tighten it, sliding it near the nut above it and rotating the tool clockwise to break them apart while simultaneously pulling the tubes free from beneath the nut. If applying the second process, take off and set aside the tube nut located on the fluid port. Slide the return hose located at the lower left corner outwards at the same time you're holding the left (driver's) side of the radiator cooling module to remove it from the car.
