The Parking Brake Cable is a part of the parking brake system in Jeep Cherokee and it comes in handy to make sure that the car will not roll when parked particularly on a slope. This cable links the operation of the parking brake which is also known as the emergency brake or handbrake, to all the other brake systems with the intention of making the parking brake functional. There are several types of Parking Brake Cable that have been used in Jeep Cherokee and the main differences are known to be in the design and the kind of material that is used in the making of these cables with this exercising some influence over the periods of durability and performance. A Parking Brake Cable has symptoms like lack of adequate tension, the parking brake will not hold the car securely or complete failure where the cable pulls apart. Therefore, one cannot overemphasize the need to maintain the Parking Brake Cable correctly as it plays a very significant role in the general performance of the Jeep Cherokee.

Jeep Cherokee Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on Jeep Cherokee?
    A:
Before working on the cable, lift the vehicle and loosen the equalizer nuts enough to make the cables dangle freely at the rear. Clip the equalizer and compressor cables back into the cable retainers using a worm drive hose clamp. After pulling the cables from the bracket, remove the rear wheel and its brake hardware. After that, remove the secondary brake shoe and take the cable off the lever on the shoe. Compress the clamp with your worm drive and pull the cables from the backing plates. During installation, place the new cables into the backing plates, so that the cable retainer is in place. Attach the end of the cable to the lever on the brake shoe and fit the brake shoe back in the backing plate. Align the brake shoes to the drum using a brake gauge and after that put the drums and wheels onto the vehicle. After ensuring the cable retainers are in the cable bracket, lower the ends of the cables into the equalizer and add the equalizer nut. In addition, release the parking brake before you move.
