Before repairing the knuckle, start by taking out the hub bearing and axle shaft, since the next steps apply to the ball stud. Make use of Tool Kit 6289 to take out and install the upper and lower ball studs on your vehicle. Release the tie-rod or drag link from the steering knuckle arm, then take out the cotter pins from the top and bottom ball studs. Finish by loosening and removing the upper and lower ball stud nuts. Using a brass hammer, hit the steering knuckle until it is no longer attached to the ball studs, then take the knuckle out. Install the steering knuckle over the ball studs and tighten the bottom nut (torque to 109 Nm or 80 ft. lbs.). After that, put a new cotter pin in place. Then, tighten the top retaining nut to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) and put in a new cotter pin.
