The brake light switch should be installed with the secondary restraint system turned off which is done by breaking the negative battery connector for two minutes as the capacitor discharges. Since the brake lamp switch's plunger adjusts only once, if the switch is taken out, it has to be replaced with a new one. First, push and keep the brake pedal down. Be sure that the flat tabs on the brake lamp switch locking collar are lined up with the keyed hole in the brake pedal bracket on the dash panel and then push them through until the housing sits on the bracket. Slide the switch housing around to the left about 30 degrees to hook the tabs into the bracket. Do not use the brake pedal until after the switch plunger adjustment is done. After you've taken your foot off the brake with no pull of the pedal, join the unibody wire harness connector to the brake lamp switch again. Slide the wire harness retainer into the locator hole on the brake pedal support bracket. Rotate the plunger adjustment release lever through one full turn clockwise and secure it, so it is parallel with the brake lamp switch connector receptacle. After you make this last change, it cannot be reversed, so if done wrong, a new brake lamp switch needs to be put in. When everything is in place, attach the negative cable of the battery.
