  In order to remove and replace the brake shoes, make sure that the parking brake is in the released position prior to raising the vehicle and supporting it. To begin, remove the wheel mounting nuts and then the rear tire and wheel assembly. After that, remove the brake drum. Take away the lower shoe spring and, likewise, compress and remove the hold-down spring securing the rear shoe to the support plate. You can access the connection at the lever for the parking brake cable by pulling the rear shoe away from the anchor. By compressing the cable return spring, the cable should be detached from the lever. Next, you should compress and remove the hold-down spring that retains the front shoe to support plate. Also remove both brake shoes from the wheel cylinder. Take out the shoe assemblies and the rest as assembly through the opening between the wheel cylinder and the support plate hub and bearing with the shoe assembly outboard-side-up on a flat surface. Detach the adjuster spring from the leading shoe along with the lever pawl, and then detach the lever pawl from the rear shoe pivot. To access the inboard side, flip the shoe assembly. Take off the upper shoe return spring and then the adjuster from the shoes and parking brake lever.
