It is necessary to service pistons, rings and connecting rods strung together, before choosing to remove the connecting rod. Since engine balance matters, only one, three or four pistons should be swapped out, because changing two at a time creates an imbalance. First, lift out the engine and next remove the cylinder head. First, remove the engine oil, then remove the
Oil Pan and the
Oil Filter. Following that, replace the balance shaft with the vanishing point and the ladder frame with a broken ladder. In advance of piston removal, ensure that carbon and debris are cleaned from the cylinder to keep the piston's skirts from being scratched. Use a quality ridge reamer to clean off the ridge on your cylinder's bores so that the pistons are safely out of reach. Put the
Crankshaft in a central position, center the connecting rods in the rules and write the number on each cap with a marker, as stamping or punching may cause damage. Be sure not to use the connecting rod bolts more than once, since it would be dangerous for the engine. Remove the piston and rod assembly from its cylinder bore one at a time and firmly install the upper bearing cap on the rod as you go.
