How to Safely Service and Repair an Antenna Cable Without Causing Damage on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before working on the antenna cable, open the air bag system by unplugging the negative cable from the battery and after disconnecting, wait two minutes to discharge the air bag system. To remove domestic models, first disconnect the battery negative cable, remove the radio ensuring you do not pull out the antenna cable before opening the connector lock, remove the antenna cable while unlocking the connector, remove the glove box, remove the instrument panel side panel, pull out the instrument panel cable from the antenna body and cable and after that, remove the antenna retaining straps and the antenna cable. For these models, once the air bag system and battery are disconnected, pull the radio out of the panel, again avoiding damage to the antenna cable, unplug the antenna cable, remove each retainer securing the cable to the panel and pull the antenna cable out.

How to Maintain an Antenna Cable on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Servicing the antenna cable involves isolating the battery first by breaking and isolating its negative cable. Get rid of the scuff plate on the right front door sill and the trim panel from the right inner cowl side. On the right side of the instrument panel, near the cowl side inner panel under the passenger side, disconnect the antenna coaxial cable by separating the metal halves after pulling. Remove the retainer from the hole in the mounting tab above the passenger side end of the instrument panel. Take the radio receiver out of the instrument panel and the passenger side air bag module out of the instrument panel. Unplug the antenna cable retainer from the top of the radio mount hole and from the tabs on top of the structural duct above the glove box opening, then pull the antenna cable out of its connection in the instrument panel. Set the antenna cable against the instrument panel, connect its locator tabs above the glove box and insert the cable retainer into the top hole of the radio mount's housing. Screw in the passenger side air bag module and the radio receiver wherever there is space in the instrument panel. Connect the antenna cable retainer to the mounting hole in the wire harness tab under the passenger side of the instrument panel and afterwards reattach the antenna coaxial cable connector halves. After that, fit the trim panel to the right inner cowl side, attach the scuff plate to the front door and lock your battery negative cable onto the frame.
