How to Install an EGR Valve on a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before you can install the EGR valve on a 3.7L engine, clean the gasket area at the rear of the left cylinder head where it meets at the base of the EGR valve. Then clean the EGR tube at the place where it joins with EGR valve. Install a new gasket between the EGR valve and cylinder head and put the EGR valve on the cylinder head and bolt it with two bolts, tighten to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Next, put another new gasket between the EGR tube flange and the EGR valve assembly. Attach the EGR tube along side the EGR valve with the connection fitting installed into the intake manifold and fasten with 2 bolts torqued to 8.5 ft. lbs. (11 Nm). Last, join the electrical connector as it is at the EGR valve solenoid top.

The first step to working on the EGR Valve is to release and control the fuel pressure, then turn off the Negative Battery Cable. After that, take out the Engine Cover, Air Filter Housing and Intake Tube and finally remove the Engine Cover Support Brace. Take out the Turbocharger Intercooler Tube and the Lower Turbocharger Intercooler Flex Hose and place the Vacuum Pump on the side for now. Pull off the electrical connnectors on the IAT and EGR Airflow Valve, then take off the EGR Tube from the Charge Air Crossover Manifold before the Intake Manifolds. Withdrew the bolts from both the IAT Sensor Housing Bracket and its Bracket, together with the Fuel Line Support. Remove the IAT Sensor Housing retaining bolts at the end to take out the housing and then use an EGR Airflow Valve bolt remover to remove the EGR Airflow Valve.
