Heater Core in Jeep Grand Cherokee as a component influences the climate control system of vehicles and supplies warm air to the passenger's compartment when the heater is on. Working in roughly the same manner as a car's radiator, the Heater Core uses a combination of water and antifreeze to take the heat generated by the engine and send it into the passenger cabin. Made from aluminum or brass it is equipped with fins to increase thermal conductivity, cooler has a so-called intake where hot coolant is brought from an engine combined with air supplied by a fan of the car. There are probably years in which Jeep Grand Cherokee used different Heater Core designs and various methods of temperature control - such as control valves for the flow of coolant and sophisticated systems using electromechanical actuators for finely tuned control. Some of the problems that are associated with Heater Core include blockage, undiscovered leaking, and corrosion and this poses a major challenge for the technicians because the dashboard requires to be disassembled fully.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Heater Core in the HVAC Air Distribution Housing on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
    A:
Set the heater core inside the passenger side of the HVAC air distribution housing. Take any tape or plugs off the heater core ports and, should the tubes be missing, place them into the vehicle. Use clean engine coolant to oil new O-ring seals, install them according to instructions with the O-ring that comes specifically from the engine cooling system and insert them into the heater core tubing. Link the heater core tubes to the heater core and use bolt 7 to bolt them securely. Mount the heater core tube retaining bracket 5 into the HVAC housing by placing screw 3 and tightening it to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). If your car has dual zone heating-A/C, put Blend Door Actuator 1 on the passenger side of the HVAC air distribution housing. Place and fasten heater core and tube cover 2 to HVAC housing 3 with five screws 1, each turned to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Install the instrument panel, put the heater hoses back on the heater core tubes in the engine area if they were removed and link the negative Battery Cable. Upon changing the heater core, flush the cooling system and top off the engine's coolant.
  • Q: How to Safely Service a Heater Core on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
    A:
Always follow safety steps when working on a car's heater core, since air bag deployment can cause injury. Take off the vehicle housing for the heater-A/C first and the foam gasket coming out of the core tubes second, remembering its unusual shape for correct installation. Subsequently, remove the screws and retainers at the joint of the heater core and tubes to the heater-A/C housing. If additional space is needed, take out the mode door actuator. Take hold of the heater core and draw it up and out of the housing; in case of individual tube replacements, undo and pull the round wire-to-core clamp before removing the tube from the core. First, slide the tube into the core and verify the tube O-ring is in place and not being squeezed, while you hold the tube so you can install the tube-to-core clamp. Place the core in its position, secure the tube-to-heater-core clamp after setting the tubes and then fit the heater-A/C housing onto the core. Put the heater core into the heater-A/C housing, put the mode door actuator back if it was taken off and attach the retainers to the heater core tubes with screws tightened to no more than 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Afterward, fasten the grounding strap to the lower heater core retainer and put the heater-A/C housing back in the vehicle.
