While hinges can be accessed without removing the liftgate, replacement demands one by one. Before installing, smear a layer of body sealer onto the hinge mating surfaces where they connect to the body. Put the body half of the liftgate hinge (1) into place under the upper liftgate opening header on the vehicle. Get access to the area for fitting by gently pulling down the rear edge of the headliner from the header, install the nuts and tighten them, then attach and tighten the other bolt to secure the hinge, all with 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). After that, connect the liftgate to its end of the hinge (1) on the car and tighten the two screws (2) that hold it. After that, fit the struts, take away the support from the liftgate and make sure the liftgate opens and closes correctly. Once finished, place the trim plate above the upper liftgate opening header and look for water leaks around the hinge to body screws.
