How to Service and Repair a Front Door Hinge on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Open the door and keep it raised with a sturdy lifting device before you work on the hinge. Then, mark the place of the hinge with a grease pencil or something similar and remove the door wire harness. When changing both hinges, take off the bolts and separate the door check from the a-pillar. Epoxy coated washers on the hinges should not be removed, since their absence could require door adjustment. After that, take the door hinge out of the door nuts. Removing both hinges means taking off the door and taking out the bolts so you can remove the hinge from the a-pillar. To install, use 3M(R) Fast and Firm or a similar sealant, between the hinge and the mating surface on the body. Place the hinge on the a-pillar and mount the hinge to the body bolts loosely. Bring the hinge up to the line and tighten the bolts until you have reached 28 N.m. Put the door up on the hinge and line up its edges with the marks on the car, then add the nuts and washers and fix them at a torque of 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.). When you are finished, position the door so that it follows the new line.
