How to Remove and Service a Rear Door Latch Assembly on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Remove the watershield in order to open the rear door latch for servicing. Separate the handle rod from the back of the door and from the actuator rod on the inside handle and take out the rod. Next, remove the three bolts fastening the latch to the door and take everything out at once, including the rods. Untie the door wire harness from the rear door latch and pull out every actuator rod, if required.

How to Install a Door Latch Assembly for the Rear Door on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Attach the actuator rods to the rear door latch if they were removed, then using the retainers, secure them together. After that, insert the rear door latch and actuator rod assembly into the door so the lock knob rod fits through the hole in the inner door panel. Fit the rear door latch to the door and tighten the three bolts to 10.5 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Link the backend harness connector to the rear door latch, then insert the rod treated with Teflon onto the door latch and match it with the retainer. Slide the actuator rod into the rear exterior handle, slide the watershield back into place on the rear door and set the rear door latch.
