  • Q: How to service and repair the EGR Cooler on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
    To get access to EGR cooler, the negative battery cable needs to be disconnected and engine cover has to be removed. With a well-corrected CV joint on the drive shaft shoulder, the CV joint and shaft insert horizontally into the differential. Detach the pipe from the EGR valve housing. Remove the bolt securing the EGR valve housing to the engine block. Remove the EGR valve and cooler assembly from the vehicle. Remove the retaining bolts, separating the EGR valve from the cooler. When assembling, first clean all the gasket mating surfaces. Assemble the EGR valve and cooler to housing. Only use a new gasket if the cooler has been replaced. Finally, torque bolts to 11 N.m. (95 in.lbs.). Attach the EGR valve/cooler assembly to the head, torquing the bolts to 24.5 N.m (216 in.lbs.). Then attach the EGR tube to the EGR assembly and torque the bolts to 32 N.m (24 ft.lbs). Fasten the EGR tube clamps with a torque of 7 N.m (62 in.lbs.), connect the hoses for the EGR cooler, replenish the cooling system, install back the engine cover and finally reconnect negative battery cable.
