The Control Arm of Jeep Patriot vehicles is an integral part of the vehicle since it connects the frame of the vehicle to the wheels to support suspension system. This feature enables the wheels to rotate in order to absorb shock from the road unevenness and this is important for the wheels to be in correct angles and for the car to have good handling. Jeep Patriot models have used different Control Arms, the conventional ones being the stamped steel and the modern ones being the cast iron or aluminum which gives strength and reduces weight. Stamped steel Control Arms are very strong, but they do rust and when this happens, the strength of the control arm is a big issue. Where as the older Jeep Patriot Control Arms which are usually made of cast iron are not capable of withstanding high performance conditions while the newer Jeep Patriot Control Arms are made with DOM tubular steel and billet aluminum and are stronger and more durable. These performance-oriented control arms are specifically designed for those who love to drive aggressively and go off the road as well since they offer enhanced handling and stability. All in all, the Jeep Patriot's Control Arm is a vital component that contributes to the smooth running of the suspension system and thus offers the needed stability on the roads.

Jeep Patriot Control Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Rear Lower Control Arm on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
Before removing the rear lower control arm, raise and stabilize the vehicle. Come next, unscrew and remove the wheel mounting nuts (3) and then lift off the tire and wheel set (1). When the car has a stabilizer bar link, clamp the lower control arm and unscrew the nut (2) that holds the link to it (4). Remove the lower shock mounting nut (3) and bolt (1) next. After that, undo the stay brace's mounting screws (2) and pull out the brace. After you finish the previous step, remove the nut (2) and bolt (3) attaching the lower control arm (4) to the trailing link (1). The nut (6) and bolt (5) holding the lower control arm (4) to the crossmember (7) are then removed. You should also uninstall the lower control arm for the release of the suspension.
  • Q: How to Install the Front Lower Control Arm on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
First, slide the lower control arm down into the crossmember at the front of the suspension. Attach the rear bolt to the crossmember through the lower control arm, place the nut only halfway tight on the rear bolt, then lower the transmission. Following that, install the bottom bolt attaching the lower control arm to the crossmember with no fully tightened bolts. When the lower control arm is light, tighten the rear mounting bolt nut to 183 Nm (135 ft. lbs.) and the front pivot bolt to that same amount. Make sure the groove in the stud matches the bolt hole in the boss of the knuckle when installing the ball joint stud. Replace the old ball joint stamp pinch bolt and nut with new ones and tighten the nut to 82 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). After the assembly is in place, tighten the wheel mounting nuts with 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower the vehicle and do the wheel alignment.
