Start the repair of the fan clutch by loosening the four fan hub nuts with a socket, but do not remove them yet. For the 4.0L engine, turn the mounting nut on the water pump hub shaft counterclockwise with a fan wrench to remove the thermal viscous fan drive/
Fan Blade assembly. Following that, take out the accessory
Drive Belt. In particular models using a dedicated engine, taking out the fan shroud may be necessary to access the viscous fan drive which should be removed as a combined part with the fan blade. For the 2.5L engine, remove the four fan hub nuts and take out the fan/viscous fan drive assembly. It is important not to put the thermal viscous fan drive in a horizontal spot after its removal to prevent silicone fluid from flowing into the bearing assembly. Assemble the fan blade onto the viscous fan drive and attach it using 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque. For the 2.5L engine, fit the fan blade or viscous fan drive assembly flange onto the hub, attach the four nuts and tighten each to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.), making sure the first two are spaced by 180 degrees. To install the fan for the 4.0L engine, just thread it onto the water pump pulley. Be sure to put the serpentine accessory drive belt in the right order so that the engine doesn't overheat from unintentional water pump rotation.
