2000 Dodge Dakota Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft for Rear on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before inspecting the rear propeller shaft, set safety stands under the car and put the transmission in the Neutral gear. On the axle companion flange and yoke, record a line that will help during installation and if your vehicle is equipped with a shield and center bearing, also mark their outlines on the corresponding parts. If there is a support bracket, remove the bolts holding the center bearing and heat shield to it and then remove the bolts keeping the companion yoke attached to the companion flange. Slide the yoke off the transmission or transfer case shaft to remove the propeller shaft. To set up the slip yoke, attach it to the end of the transmission or transfer case shaft, install the center bearing as needed, fit the heat shield to the support bracket and tighten all bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) torque. Place the installation reference marks over the companion flange and yoke on the companion flange, put the companion yoke onto that flange and thread the bolts in with 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque prior to lowering the vehicle.
