2001 Dodge Dakota Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: To work on the propeller shaft, first gear the transmission to Neutral and then raise your vehicle on safety stands. Draw a line on the axle companion flange and flange yoke to help with installation and if you have a heat shield and center bearing mark the center bearing on the support bracket and center it on the heat shield. For some models, detach the center bearing and heat shield bolts first, plus the companion flange bolts. Use a downtube to move the slip yoke from the transmission or transfer case output shaft to take it out. Slide the slip yoke onto the transmission or transfer case shaft and then, if necessary, install the center bearing and heat shield to the support bracket, tightening all bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Line up the companion flange reference mark and the flange yoke mark, fit the bolts through the flanges and set their tightness to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) as you lower the vehicle.
