How to Service a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Dodge Dakota?

The first thing to do when servicing the power steering pump is to remove the pump drive belt using the proper method for engine drive belts. Position the drain pan below the power steering pump, cut or disconnect the hoses and then cover each end to stop contamination. Take out the pump mounting bolts, then come loose the bolts holding the pump bracket to slide out the pump. When installing, if the front bracket is missing, put it back on the pump. Insert the pump into the rear mounting bracket, mount the bolts/nuts and tighten everything to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Afterward, put the bracket-to-engine connection bolts in place and tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Connect the hoses to your pump again, install and position the drive belt and then fill the reservoir with power steering fluid before powering on the pump.
