2001 Dodge Dakota Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: The clutch release bearing should be serviced by taking out the transmission first. After that, remove the release bearing from the fork and take out the bearing. Examine the release bearing slide surface of the transmission front bearing retainer and change the retainer if it is scored, worn or cracked. Inspect the release fork and fork pivot, making sure the pivot is safe and undamaged and check that the fork is not out of shape or has wear. A bent or damaged release fork retainer spring should be changed. Put some Mopar high temperature bearing grease on the pilot bearing, input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, fork pivot and release fork pivot. After that, add the release fork and bearing with proper installation and attach the transmission again.
