Start by inspecting the release bearing slide surface of the front bearing retainer (3) for damage such as cracks or scratches and change the front bearing retainer if the slide surface is bad. After that, look at the release fork and fork pivot to guarantee that the pivot has not been damaged and the fork is structurally sound. If the spring used to keep the release fork in place is bent or broken, then you should put in a new one. Apply a small amount of high temperature Mopar(R) bearing grease to the
Pilot Bearing (5), input splines (4), slide surface of the bearing retainer (3), fork pivot (2) and the release fork (1) pivot surface. After that, install the release fork and bearing, check that they are tight and attach the transmission/transfer case.
