2000 Dodge Dakota Thermostat Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Your Thermostat on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before you service your thermostat, make sure the radiator doesn't have the draincock loose while the cooling system is still hot and under pressure to avoid getting hurt. Coolant can be used again after you drain it into a clean container. Start with removing the negative battery cable and draining the coolant in the radiator until it is beneath the area where the thermostat is located. Raise the car; undo the upper radiator hose and heater hose linked to the thermostat housing and pull out the wiring connector from the temperature sensor. The following step is to remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing, the housing unit and the thermostat, discard the old gasket and keep the housing unit. Thoroughly clean the surfaces where the gasket meets before fitting the replacement thermostat so that its pellet side with a coil spring points toward the engine and the arrow and air hole on the outer flange are in the engine cylinder head's recess groove. Put in the new gasket and the housing for the thermostat, then tighten the housing without putting too much force on any single bolt. Join the hoses back onto the housing for the thermostat, attach the electrical connection to the temperature sensor and secure the negative battery cable again. When done, make sure the radiator draincock is properly sealed and add the right amount of coolant mixture to the system. The last step is to start the engine while looking for any leaks.
