2000 Dodge Durango Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: To work on the steering knuckle, raise the vehicle, take off the wheel and tire and prepare to remove it. After that, remove the disc brake caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor. First, remove the tie-rod from the steering knuckle arm, then the hub/bearing and finish with the shock absorber. Take Spring Compressor DD-1278 and tighten its lower nut after installing it through the lower suspension arm, coil spring and the upper shock mounting hole. first, use Remover C-4150A to split the lower ball joint nut and then to separate the ball joint from the knuckle, then do everything for the upper ball joint using Remover MB-991113 while being careful not to break the seal on the ball joints. When you've removed the knuckle, position it over the ball joints, tighten the bottom nut to 94 ft. lbs. (127 Nm) and the top nut to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm), insert the cotter pins and secure them. After the spring compressor is removed, put in the shock absorber, hub/bearing, ABS speed sensor, brake dust shield, rotor and caliper and put the tie rod onto the steering knuckle arm before placing the wheel and tire on the car. After removing the support, slowly lower the vehicle down.
