2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Crankshaft on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Start by taking off the oil pan and afterwards find and remove the bearing caps from the crankshaft. Remove each bearing cap and then extract the upper part of the bearing from the crankshaft oil hole using Special Main Bearing Tool C-3059. Slowly crank the engine in a clockwise direction, this should cause the upper bearing shell to force out. When mounting the shaft, fit only the main bearing that is turned and be sure to tighten all the other main bearing caps. Chamfer a bit of the sharp area on the plain side of the new upper bearing shell when installing it. Secure the bearings and then attach Main Bearing Tool C-3059 to the oil hole of the crankshaft. Crank the crankshaft slowly to the left until the bearing lines up, then get rid of Special Main Bearing Tool C-3059. After placing the mains on, tighten the bolts just to make sure they hold. Turn the main bolts at the 1, 3 and 4 points to 41 Nm and then 1/4 more. Crank the engine in such a way that the 6 piston is now at TDC. To check the bearing alignment properly, pull the crankshaft to the rear and let it travel to the front. Slide a bar between the back of the block and the rear crankshaft weight to push the crankshaft all the way forward. Screw all the #2 Thrust Bearing cap bolts to 41 Nm plus 1/4 turn (30 ft. lbs. plus 1/4 turn) and then remove the holding tool. After that, place the oil pan in position and ensure the correct amount of oil is in the crankcase.
