2000 Dodge Intrepid Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Throttle Position Sensor on 2000 Dodge Intrepid?
A: Remove the negative battery cable as the initial step to service the Throttle Position Sensor. Remove the electrical connector attached to the TPS, then take out the mounting screws and take care of the TPS. The throttle body goes into the throttle position sensor, with the throttle shaft end resting against the two little internal tabs found inside the sensor opening. Correct indexing allows the TPS to turn a little clockwise and come into line with the screw holes on the throttle body, squeezing the assembly down slightly when in position. If just moving the sensor is not enough, hold it so the throttle shaft points in the opposite direction to the tabs in the socket. Use 3 Nm (25 in. lbs.) to tighten the mounting screws firmly. When the TPS is fitted, ensure that the throttle plate is seated; if it's not, put the sensor in the alternative slot. After that, put the electric connector back onto the TPS and put the negative battery cable in its place.
