2000 Dodge Intrepid Valve Stem Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Valve Stem Seal on 2000 Dodge Intrepid?
A: Make sure to release the fuel system's pressure before doing any repairs on the valve stem seal. Take off the negative lead from the remote jump terminal, remove the air cleaner cover and inlet hose and after removing the upper intake manifold, remove the cover from the cylinder head(s). Then, remove the crankshaft damper, timing chain cover and timing chain and get rid of the camshafts. Attach a length of air hose to the spark plug adapter where you have serviced the cylinder and then pump air at a pressure of 620.5-689 kPa (90-100 psi). couples Special Tool MD 998772A and adapter 6779 to push down the valve spring and take out the valve locks, retainer and the spring. To remove, insert the valve seal tool and uninstall the seals. To put the valve stem seal/valve spring seat into place, line it up with the valve using the stem as your guide and push straight down, but don't push against the very top of the valve guide. Only compress the spring to a degree that lets you put the valve retainer locks in place. Do this process with the remaining five cylinders in the firing order 1-2-3-4-5-6, making sure the piston is at TDC in the cylinder where the valve spring is being removed. Following this, take out the spark plug adapter tool and Special Tool MD 998772A and replace the rocker arm(s), camshafts, timing chain and timing chain cover, then add the cylinder head covers and upper intake manifold. After that, restore the negative cable to its proper position.
