2000 Dodge Neon Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace and Flare a Brake Line on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: Always replace hydraulic brake tubes with double wall 4.75 mm (3/16 inch) steel using Nygal-nylon coated galvanized steel tubing. Ensure you use special bending tools, don't bend the tube into a kink and avoid directing the tubes into hot spaces or in front of sharp or moving parts whenever fixing brake tubing. Use the recommended attachments to link all tubes securely to the interior system. Before flaring the brake tube, cut the damaged flare or tubing section using Tubing Cutter, C-3478-A. Be sure the ends of the tubing are flat, clean up rough edges on the inside and strip off at least 5 mm of the nylon coating before flaring them. Always apply a tube nut to the tubing before flaring the end, since it cannot be done afterward. When creating a double inverted tubing flare, screw the replacement flare nut onto the tube such that the threads are at the side of the flare you want to make. Turn on the Flaring Tool, Special Tool C-4047 (or its alternate) and insert the tubing where the jawed bit is held by the two vertical posts. Bring the vertical parts together around the tube, but don't squeeze too hard to hold it. Once the tube touches the notch that fits its diameter, use the tool to lock the tubing and set it and then take out the gauge. Insert the 3/16 inch plug gauge through one end of the tube then tighten the flaring handle with the gauge touching the vertical steps inside. Let go of the handle and take out the plug gauge, then tighten it again so the flaring tip hardens the tube onto the vertical posts and finishes the flare. Make sure no Nygal tube coating came into contact with the flare, then remove the flared tube and check that it is uniform.
