2000 Dodge Neon Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Throttle Cable on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: Before servicing or fixing the throttle valve cable/linkage, take off the air cleaner/throttle body assembly. Cut the Proportional Purge Solenoid (PPS) and crankcase vent hose, crankcase vent hose from the throttle body and separate the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and Idle Air Control (IAC) connectors. Then, take off the air duct from the throttle body at the manifold and detach the mounting nut and bolt. Soon after, remove just the main part of the air cleaner but leave the cables attached. Pay special attention to the way the throttle valve cable is attached to avoid stiffness, as this is vital for good operation of the transaxle. First, take off the throttle valve cable from the air cleaner/throttle body assembly, then take it off from the lever on the transaxle. Make certain the throttle valve cable runs freely without binding or getting in its own way during the installation. Connect the transaxle throttle valve cable to the bracket and lever so the cable snaps into the lever and afterward connect it to the air cleaner/throttle body assembly. Fit the air cleaner/throttle body assembly, connecting the air cleaner's slot to the battery bracket tab and use 14 Nm (120 inch lbs.) torque to screw on the fasteners. Place the duct onto the manifold and make sure it fits firmly, then secure it with a clamp at 5 Nm (40 inch lbs.) torque. After that, handle the TPS, IAC and PPS connectors and link the crankcase vent hose back with the battery's negative cable. Do the Throttle Valve Cable Adjustment, making sure you have installed the air cleaner/throttle body assembly beforehand. Be sure that the cable is routed straight and not at all kinked before you unlock the adjustment grip and release it onto the cable where it meets the throttle body, after that grab the cable conduit and pull towards the throttle body, finally letting go to allow it to auto-adjust. After that, lock the cable in place with the clip and test drive the vehicle to ensure the transaxle is working properly.
