2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before servicing or repairing the oil pan, remove the negative cable from the battery and detach the engine oil dipstick. Following this, raise the car, empty the engine oil, get rid of the exhaust pipe and take the left engine to transmission strut out. Turn the nut on the right side engine support bracket cushion anticlockwise to withdraw it and slip the engine upward slightly to slide the oil pan back and out. Wash the surfaces of the block and pan gasket, then slice the heads off four 5/16 X 1 1/2 inch bolts and cut a slot in the top of each to enable smoother fitting and removal. Slide the dowels into the cylinder block, then place a bit of Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or another type, in the corner where the cap and block come together. Set the one-piece gasket over the dowels and into the block and then put the oil pan over the dowels and onto the gasket. Place the oil pan bolts and tighten them until their torque is 24 Nm (215 in. lbs.) and then take out the dowels. After that, install the remaining oil pan bolts, also tightening them the same amount. Set the engine onto the brighter and tighten the supporting nut to the recommended torque. Screw in the drain plug until it has reached a torque of 34 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Then install the engine to transmission strut and exhaust pipe. Place the vehicle in a raised position, fit in the dipstick, join the negative oven end to the battery and add oil into the crankcase to the proper amount.
