2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The first step to servicing and repairing the valve is to use the adapter 6716A with the Valve Spring Compressor Tool MD-998772-A to compress the valve springs. Disconnect the valve retaining locks, the valve stem seals and the valve retaining things on the valve spring retainers. Wipe out any burrs from the valve stem lock grooves to stop damage to the valve guides and be sure to label the valves before you remove them. Before installing, cover the valve stems with oil and press them into the cylinder head. Should the valves have been reground and the valve stem be too high, you need to replace the cylinder head. Put new seals on the valve guides, then place the valve springs and valve retainers. Wrap the valve springs with MD-998772-A and use adapter 6716A as well, put the locks on and lower the tool to finish the process. Measure the height of the installed springs from the spring seat in your cylinder head to the bottom of the spring retainer if the valves or seats have been ground. Take measurements from the top of the spacer if you are using them. If the part is taller than 42.86 mm (1-11/16 inches), use a 1.587 mm (1/16-inch) spacer in the head's counterbore area to make the spring height normal, between 41.27 mm and 42.86 mm (1-5/8 to 1-11/16 inches).
