2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Coil Springs Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Start the coil spring service process by raising the car, removing the tire and taking off the wheel assembly. Then, take out the brake caliper assembly and the rotor. Get rid of the tie rod end holder by removing the cotter pin and nut and use Puller C-3894-A to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle. Take out the stabilizer bar link attached to the lower suspension arm and then put a jack below the shock mount to support the outboard end of the lower suspension arm. Pull out the cotter pin and the nut from the lower ball joint and detach the ball joint with Remover C-4150A. With the lower shock bolt off the suspension arm, use the jack to carefully lower both so that you can remove the spring and rubber isolator. Put the rubber isolator over the spring and seat it into the upper spring seat. Pull up the lower suspension arm with the jack and put the spring into the mount for the arm. After installation, tighten the lower shock bolt up to 142 Nm or 105 ft. lbs. Secure the lower ball joint, tightening its nut to either 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.) if you are working on an LD or 136 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) on an HD and install the cotter pin on both. Replace the old stabilizer bar link on the lowers suspension arm, holding it in place with a grommet, retainer and nut tightened by 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Position the tie rod end on the steering knuckle, make it firm with 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) of torque and add and secure the cotter pin. Screw on the brake rotor and caliper assembly and slide the front wheel and tire onto the rim of the car. To finish, take away the support and bring the vehicle down.
