2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Coil Springs Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Elevate and support your vehicle, take off the wheel and tire and then move the brake caliper assembly and rotor before working on the coil spring. Afterward, pull out the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod and use Puller C-3894-A to free the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Unfasten the stabilizer bar link from the lower suspension arm and hold up the outboard lower arm with a jack, placing it under the arm in front of the shock mount. Taking out the cotter pin and the nut, separate the ball joint by using Remover C-4150A. After removing the lower shock bolt from the suspension arm, lower the jack and suspension arm so that spring tension is gone and remove the spring and rubber isolator. To install, rest the rubber isolator on the spring and slide the spring into the top spring seat. Jack up the lower suspension arm and place the spring into the corresponding mount at the bottom. Install the lower shock bolt and secure it by turning it to 142 Nm or 105 ft. lbs. Mount the steering knuckle on the lower ball joint, drive in the lower ball joint nut to 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.) for LD or 136 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) for HD and place the cotter pin in the lower ball joint. Remount the stabilizer bar link to the suspension arm, adding a grommet, retainer and nut and tighten to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Put the tie rod end onto the steering knuckle, attach the nut and tighten it to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) before you install the cotter pin. Last, assemble the brake rotor and caliper assembly, replace the tire and wheel as well, remove the support and lower the vehicle.
