Q: How to Remove and Install an Intake Manifold on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before you remove the intake manifold, take out the negative cable from the battery and drain the cooling system. You should then remove the A/c compressor, generator and accessory drive bracket, then take out the air cleaner. Follow the fuel system pressure release method and take the fuel hose apart. If your car comes with these, unhook the accelerator linkage, speed control and transmission kickdown cables and remove the return spring. Take the distributor cap and wires out, disconnect the coil wires, heat indicator sending unit wire and both heater hoses and the bypass hose. Next, take off both the closed crankcase ventilation and evaporation control systems, then open the intake manifold to remove their bolts and lift its assembly out of the engine compartment. Omit the side gaskets and also remove the gaskets from the front and rear cross-overs. After this, remove all bolts and the throttle body, throwing away the gasket. When applicable, detach the plenum pan and its gasket and throw away the gasket. To install the plenum pan, fit the sealing gasket first, put on the plenum shield and tighten the mounting bolts first to 5.4 Nm (24 in. lbs.), then to 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.). Finally, ensure all bolts are set at 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.). Install the throttle body onto the intake manifold using a new gasket and turn all the bolts to a torque of 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Add Mopar Gen Ii Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or a similar kind of sealant, to the four corner joints, but don't put so much it overflows. Put the front and rear cross-over gaskets on the dowels, then position the flange gaskets so they sit against the cylinder head gasket tabs and the words Manifold Side are clearly seen. Guide the intake manifold down to its proper position on the cylinder block and cylinder heads with the help of the location dowels in the cross-over gaskets. Once the seals are set in place, attach the intake manifold tightening the bolts. Replace the closed crankcase ventilation and evaporation control systems, attach the coil wires, heat indicator sending unit wire, connect the heater hoses and connect the bypass hose. Install the distributor cap and wires, attach the return spring and join the accelerator linkage with the speed control and transmission kickdown cables if these are present. Fit the generator and drive belt, as well as the fuel lines, accessory drive bracket and A/c compressor and tighten the generator bolt to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque. Once done, put in the air cleaner, charge your cooling system and attach the negative cable to the battery.
