2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are the Essential Steps and Precautions for Servicing a Steering Wheel on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: You should always disable the air bag system before carrying out any work on the steering column to avoid an accident. Proper steering column operation depends on torquing fasteners to the correct specification. First, put the front wheels in the center and separate the negative cable from the battery. Removing the air bag should only be done according to the proper steps. Attach the puller firmly to the center of the steering wheel so it doesn't touch the Clock Spring. To install, reconnect the steering wheel and tighten the nut so it reaches 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Set the air bag in its place, secure the shift link rod to the transmission shift lever for column shift models with multi-purpose lubricant or an identical item and reconnect the battery ground cable. In addition, examine the automatic transmission shift linkage and adjust it according to the manual's instructions.
