2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder, and what tools are required for bleeding a new master cylinder before installation on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Before installing the brake master cylinder on the vehicle, you must completely empty and bleed it. You need two bleed tubes and a wooden dowel to pump the pistons in this process, as a brake line can be shaped into the tubes. Place the brake master cylinder into a vise and fit the ends of the bleed tubes into the reservoir connected to the cylinder's outlet ports. Fill the reservoir with fresh brake fluid and then push the cylinder pistons inside with the wood dowel. After opening the bleeder valve, release the pistons and let them return under spring pressure while you keep bleeding the system until the bubbles are gone.
