Q: How to Remove and Install an Intake Manifold on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, take the negative cable off the car battery and then drain the cooling system. After that, uninstall the A/C compressor, generator, accessory drive bracket and air cleaner. Perform the pressure release on the fuel system and detach the fuel lines after that. Remove the accelerator linkage, speed control and transmission kickdown cables if included and then get rid of the return spring. Pull the distributor cover off and remove the distributor wires, the connection to the heater hose sending indicator, fuel pump wires and bypass hose. Lift out the closed crankcase ventilation and evaporation control before removing the intake manifold bolts. Remove the intake manifold and throttle body as a single assembly, taking care to remove and throw out all the gaskets: the two flange side gaskets and the front and rear cross-over gaskets. Take off the throttle body bolts and lift the part off the intake manifold, throwing out the old gasket. If that's needed, take out both the plenum pan and gasket, but toss the gasket. Affix the new plenum gasket over the engine's threading, then, using a torque wrench, tighten the plenum pan mounting bolts to 5.4 Nm (24 in. lbs.), then 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.) and ensure all bolts are at 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.). Place a new gasket on the intake manifold and place the throttle body on top, then secure it with bolts tightened to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). It is important to put Mopar GEN II Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or an alike sealant on just the four corners and not use too much of it. Take the front and rear cross-over gaskets and slide them on the dowels, then position the flange gaskets, so that the vertical port alignment tab lies on the block's deck face and the two horizontal alignment tabs are next to the matching manifold side tabs on each gasket. Position the intake manifold on the cylinder block and cylinder heads, using the positioning dowels found on the cross-over gaskets. Make sure the seals along the manifold are in place. First, add and tighten the intake manifold bolts and then put in the closed crankcase ventilation system and evaporation control, following the manual. Join the coil wires, the wire for the heat indicator sending unit, the heater hoses and the bypass hose. Set the distributor cap and wires in place, insert the return spring and attach the accelerator linkage plus the speed control and transmission kickdown cables if the car has them. Attach the fuel lines, accessory drive bracket and A/C compressor and then set up the generator and drive belt. Last, tighten the mounting bolt of the generator to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) of torque. After that, install the air cleaner, charge the cooling system and attach the negative battery cable again.
