2000 Dodge Viper Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Initiate the Operation of a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Dodge Viper?
A: Before doing any initial operation on the power steering pump, turn off the engine to prevent anything from moving and use only power steering fluid in the correct amount-not automotive transmission or more fluid than required. First, wipe the filler cap and inspect the level. The sign of FULL/COLD should appear in normal temperatures between 21 and 27°C. Lift the front of the vehicle and with the engine switched off, turn the steering wheel counterclockwise as far as it will go. Fill the power steering reservoir no higher than the FULL COLD indication and continue to do so without the cap on. With the engine not running, turn the steering wheel to its maximum position, forward and back, at least 20 times with the fluid level at FULL COLD. Run your vehicle and examine and manage the oil while it is standing still. Adjust both front wheels to the middle and then bring the vehicle down to the ground. Operate the engine for around 2 minutes and then turn the steering slowly, looking for smooth support, no distracting noises, correct levels of power steering fluid, no leaks and a clear condition of the fluid. Once all steps are met, switch off the engine; the procedure is done. Should the foam in the fluid be unusually heavy, give the vehicle a few moments and then repeat the test.
