2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cruise Control Servo Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install and Remove a Cruise Control Servo on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The speed control servo is fixed onto a bracket positioned under the battery tray. You should begin by removing the negative and positive cables from the battery. Take off the housing over the air cleaner at the top of the throttle body and detach the servo cable from the throttle body. After that, take out the battery from its tray and cut the connections to the wiring at the battery tray. Take out the positive battery connection from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and relax the PDC at the batteries. Remove the four bolt fasteners that hold the battery tray in place, remembering that one supports the bracket attached to the speed control. After taking out the battery tray, separate the electrical connection of the battery temperature sensor. Cut the vacuum line from its point at the servo vacuum hose fitting and the electrical connector off the servo. If both servo and bracket are coming off at once, open the two nuts mounted above the front right tire, remove the inner fender clips and pull the fender back a bit so you can get under it. When removing the servo from its bracket, first take off the two nuts holding the servo cable sleeve, next pull on the speed control cable sleeve and the servo to release the cable retaining clip from the bracket. ServoTYP allows you to remove the servo either alone from the mounting bracket or as a complete assembly with the bracket. To install the servo, place it on the mounting bracket, bring the cable's hole over the servo's pin and fit the cable-to-servo retaining clip year. Funnel the servo mounting studs through the holes in the mounting bracket and fasten them with the servo cable mounting nuts, tightened to a torque of 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). If the servo and bracket are being joined at the time of installation, tighten the two mounting nuts to a torque of about 28 Nm ± 6 Nm (250 in. lbs. ± 50 in. lbs.). Afterwards, see that the vacuum line and the electrical connector are connected to the servo and that the servo cable is connected to the throttle body. After that, attach the battery tray and temperature sensor, hook up their wires to the battery tray and place the battery in its compartment. The next step is to hook up the positive battery cable to the PDC and to the battery and the negative battery cable to the battery. Check for binding by moving the accelerator pedal before you start up the engine.
