2001 Jeep Wrangler Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Be sure to unplug the negative battery cable before you begin serving or repairing the alternator to avoid harm to the electrical system. With the generator drive belt removed and the pivot and mounting bolts or nut taken out, you can work on the wire connectors. Should the assembly be present, undo the catch on the B+ cover, remove the mounting nut found at the end of the generator near the terminal and take out the B+ cable after these steps. After that, gently depress the connector tab for the field wire at the rear of the generator and take the unit out of your car. During installation, line up the generator next to the engine and place the ferrule of the field wire wire inside the rear connector. Fit the B+ terminal to the generator stud and tighten the mounting nut to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.) torque. Remember to attach the cover to the B+ terminal if your TV has it. Put on the generator fasteners, then tighten the generator mounting bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) and the generator pivot bolts/nuts to the same torque. Make sure you don't pry the belt over the pulley using a screwdriver, as this could damage the belt and don't install the serpentine belt with the water pump cabling going backwards as this may cause the water pump to rotate the other way and overheat the engine. After that, secure the generator drive belt and attach the negative battery connection.
