2000 Jeep Wrangler Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: To take care of the clutch release bearing, start by removing the transmission first. Remove the release lever from the firearm and take out the bearing. If the slide surface of the front bearing retainer is scorched, worn or cracked, change the bearing retainer. Make sure the pivot of the release fork is secure and evaluate the fork to make sure it hasn't bent or worn out. If the retainer spring is bent or damaged, put in a new one. Work Mopar high temperature bearing grease onto the end of a long shank, small diameter flat blade screwdriver, then insert it through the clutch disc hub, aiming for the bearing to apply the grease on it. Coat the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide surface, fork pivot and release fork pivot surface with Mopar high temperature grease. Slip the brand-new bearing into the race and attach it to the release fork securely. Then replace the entire transmission.
