2001 Chrysler Sebring Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt on 2001 Chrysler Sebring?
A: The first step in servicing the drive belt is to raise the vehicle on a hoist, remove the front wheel and take off the splash shield. Take out the belt from the pulleys by turning the belt tensioner clockwise and then gently release the tensioner. First, remove the air conditioning compressor/generator belt. Then, loosen the pivot and locking bolt/nut, move the pump assembly halfway into the engine and take off the belt. Clear the belt pulleys of foreign material and ensure they are clean of oil, grease and coolant before you install the drive belt. It's recommended to replace the belt when there is considerable wear, damaged cords or clear signs of glazing, yet small cracks on the Poly-V Belt system are nothing to worry about. Correctly guide the drive belt and look for the V-grooves to touch the matching V shapes in the pulley during installation. Place the belts/ribbons correctly on the belt tensioner over every pulley except for the one on the air conditioning compressor; this will allow the belt to span almost all the pulleys. Install this belt onto the air conditioning compressor pulley by first rotating the belt tensioner clockwise, then releasing the spring tension. After that, secure the belt splash shield and right front wheel before lifting the vehicle again. The power steering pump should be fitted onto the pulleys; then set a 1/2" breaker bar into the square opening on the bracket, tighten the power steering bracket by turning clockwise, tighten the adjusting bolt, then the pivot bolt. Lastly, attach the air conditioning compressor/generator belt, the belt splash shield and the right front wheel and only after that bring the vehicle back down to the ground.
