2001 Chrysler Sebring Engine Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Engine Control Module on 2001 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Before you start to service or repair the Engine Control Module, use the DRB III to flash the vehicle's VIN and mileage into the new PCM, since if you don't you may get a diagnostic trouble code. The strategy of the PCM powertrain system maintains idle speeds normally above 320 km (200 miles) of operation. If you change the PCM after 30,000 miles or less, first update the distance and VIN on the new PCM through the DRB III scan tool. Not following this step may result in a DTC being stored and a secret key needed for the SKIM car to run. Before unplugging the PCM connectors, disable the engine, remove the negative battery cable and write down any radio programs stored in the PCM. Connectivity begins with taking out the negative battery cable, detaching the air cleaner, cutting the PCM 2 40-way connector and rearranging the wiring harness. After that, take out the two bolts and one nut to free the PCM and bracket, then take the PCM off the bracket. To install, put the PCM into the bracket, fasten it with 4 Nm (35 in. lbs.) bolts, return the wiring harness to its old place, connect the 2 40-way connector to the PCM, attach the negative battery cable again and reprogram the radio and clock. After that, intall and use the DRB III scan tool to enter the mileage and VIN data into the PCM.
