2001 Chrysler Sebring Trailing Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Trailing Arm on 2001 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Hook the vehicle having the trailing arm with jackstands or a contact type frame hoist and then remove the rear wheel and tire. Remove the nut, bushing retainer and outer trailing link bushing from the trailing link and take out the 4 bolts that link the trailing link hanger bracket to the floor pan and frame rail. Take off the assembly holding the trailing link and mounting bracket from the vehicle, remembering the angle and place of all bushings and retainers. Stand the wrench over the last link to the hanger bracket and turn the nut at the same time to remove the connections between them. Installation requires you to ensure that the inner and outer trailing link to hanger bracket bushings and retainers are in the correct position on the trailing link. Put the flat part of the trailing link at the hanger bracket when you are installing it. Loosen the retaining nut, but don't remove it as you install the black inner bushing retainer and inner bushing on the trailing link. Next, attach the trailing link, retainer and bushing to the hanger bracket, then hook the outer bushing, golden outer bushing retainer and nut onto the link, tightening the retaining nut to a torque of 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.) and making sure it doesn't rotate as you hold it firmly with a large, tight-gripped wrench. After that, fit the trailing link's knuckle end into the rear knuckle. Attach the trailing link hanger bracket to the vehicle by only tightly screwing in one bolt at a time and put in 2 drift pins to ensure proper positioning first, before tightening the 4 bracket screws together to 34 Nm (25 ft lbs.). Now, at the knuckle, fit the trailing link's outer bushing and gold bushing retainer, along with the retaining nut and tighten the nut to a torque of 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.) with a large adjustable wrench turned to prevent rotation.
