Q: How to Maintain a Brake Booster on 2001 Chrysler Voyager?
A: First, keep pumping the brake pedal with the engine off till it feels tough, remove both battery cables, then take off the battery cover, the clamp and the battery. Then, remove the screw on the engine coolant filler tube that attaches to the battery tray, take out the vacuum hose if your car has it and take off the two nuts and one bolt on the battery tray before you lay the speed control servo aside. Take apart the wiper unit and remove its wire from the brake fluid level switch. Spray Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner onto the area where the master cylinder meets the booster, separate both the primary and secondary brake tubes from either the ABS Integrated Control Unit or non-ABS junction block and fill the open tubes with sealing plugs. Take out the two nuts joining the master cylinder to the booster, pull the master cylinder directly out and detach the vacuum hose from the check valve on the booster. After taking off the silencer panel in the vehicle, find the place where the booster input rod connects to the pedal. Then, pull off the clip holding the rod before you can take it off the pedal pin. Take out the four nuts that fasten the booster to the dash panel and move the booster ahead by sliding it through the engine area. Set the booster on the dash panel, use 29 Nm to tighten the four nuts underneath, coat the brake pedal pin in lubriplate and install a new retaining clip. First, change the brake light switch, restore the under-roof section and link the check valve to the vacuum hose. Install a new vacuum seal on the master cylinder, set it onto the booster and tighten the two nuts at the mounting points to 25 Nm. Place the wiring harness back on the brake fluid level switch, link the brake tubes and secure them at 17 Nm, install the wiper module and if speed control is installed, reinstall the servo and tighten to 14 Nm. Next, set in the battery tray and hold it with two nuts and one bolt, join the servo vacuum hose if required, put in the air inlet resonator and hoses, join the engine coolant filler neck and return the battery along with its components to their slots. Next, conduct a road test and bleed the base brakes as required before approving the job is complete.
